As Asia continues to urbanise rapidly, the energy needed to build and power these new cities requires a consistently available and affordable fuel source. In many places, renewable energy is not yet a viable option. That’s why there are currently 1,142 new coal fired power generators planned or under construction in Asia.*.

In 2015, our export volumes overtook those of Indonesia, regaining our position as the world leader. And coal is expected to become the dominant fuel for electricity in Southeast Asia by 2040, further boosting demand for high quality Australian coal and helping sustain our mining industry and the jobs it supports.
